The power passed from the Company to the Crown, I.e., from the East India Company to Queen Victoria.
The Court of Directors and Board of Control was abolished. India was responsible to the Secretary of State of India which had it's base in England.
The Governor General received the title of Viceroy. The first Viceroy was Lord Canning.
The Secretary of State should be assisted by the India Council.
