Two rules for writing a chemical formula is:-

1)When a compound consists of a metal and a non-metal, the symbol of the metal is written first and on the left whereas of non-metal on its right.

(b)The valencies or on the ions must be balanced in a chemical formula.

  • In case of polyatomic ions, the ion is written in brackets before writing the number of ions associated to it. In case of a single ion, there is no need to mention the iron in brackets.
