The two military causes of the revolt of 1857 are as follow:-

◾️ There was a rumour that the Enfield rifles used by the sepoys were greased with pig and cow's fat. This upset the sentiments of both the Hindus and the Muslims .

◾️No Indian could rise above a subedar.

◾️Indian soldiers were not given batta or foreign travel allowance.

◾️ Soldiers had to cross the seas which they considered polluting.
