Akbar took the two following measures to promote better understanding between the Hindus and Muslims:

1. Akbar terminated the 'poll tax' or jizyah, which the 'non-Muslims' were needed to pay. He terminated the 'pilgrim tax' on 'bathing at holy places' such as Benaras and Prayag.

2. Akbar, being a Muslim, involves a number of Hindus into virtue. Many of this was Rajput Rajas who came into marital alliances with Akbar. 'Mansabs' were given to people 'on the basis of their 'competence'.
