Problem is the nature of both country. India wants to move towards state qou state and then eventually in the same league where China is now. Status quo is a state that has decided on its territory and ideology. On the other hand Pakistan is a territorial revisionist state meaning it is still looking at its territorial expansion and even to some people an ideological discontent state. Many claim that Pakistan is an ideological revisionist state meaning it wants the expansion through ideology which has no bases but due to biased analysis all sorts of theories are thrown around.

Power Transition Theory

You can see from the diagram that US is a hegemonic power which now feels threatened by China even though US is exaggerating the threat so it can rally other status qou states (Japan, Australia, EU countries, India, Canada) against this upcoming new power revisionist country. China wants to be the new hegemonic power and they are not keeping it under the wraps. President Xi Jinping has made it abundantly clear.

Lets focus on case at hand. India vs Pakistan why they can’t move forward. I have mentioned above that India has decided in last few decades that it will no longer be in the same category as Pakistan meaning claiming its territory. India wants Pakistan to accept the LOC as international border and move on. Pakistan on the other hand wants to drag down India back to its level. Other status quo powers and hegemonic power US want to use India to stop China while at the same time supporting Pakistan to pull back India as well so all these three countries are stuck in this conundrum.

It is almost impossible for India to end this conflict by giving Kashmir as they would be going against their ideology and status quo. At the same time there is thought in India that Pakistan is an ideological revisionist state meaning they will not stop at Kashmir but will move on to other similar issue. I disagree with this theory completely as Pakistan is only a territorial revisionist not an ideological revisionist.

As long this stays this way problem between India and Pakistan will stay unless both come to an agreement where power and economic influence is mutually agreed. Its a boring analysis in the light of international relations. Sorry you won’t hear no bogus theories like “Death by thousand cuts” and Holy Jihad because they are baseless as Pakistan is a modern state not a clan.
