What can an electric motor be used for?
This question is a very generic. Anyway I will try to answer this best possible way and add value.
First of all, lets get to the definition of “ Electric Motors “
Electric motor is the device which converts Electrical energy to Mechanical energy. In simple way, we give electrical energy to the system and extracts mechanical energy. The mechanical energy output can be used for various applications. Each application has its own requirement of speed and torque and motors will be designed based on the customer requirement.
Motors are classified as AC Motors and DC Motors. Latest technologies which are evolving are Brushless DC Motors and Switched reluctance motors which are having high power per volume and better efficiency than its AC/DC counterparts.
To answer your question, we need to talk about different applications of electric motors and how this mechanical energy output been used in each application.
There are two kinds of motors been used in Fan application. One is Inner rotor motor and the other is Outside rotor motor. To be specific about the application, we can say a ceiling fan is having outside rotor motor. Table fan has inner rotor motor. Mechanical output is coupled with the fan blades and load is the air cutting load. Air cutting will give air flow which is the ultimate requirement of the Fan.
We all now the conventional applications of the motors. So, Now let us discuss the latest motor applications where the motor been used.
Electric bike applications
Hub motor used in electric bike application and its a direct wheel motor without any transmission losses.
As the motor is outer rotor motor, the wheel moves due to the rotor movement. load on this motor is the vehicle weight and the driver & pillion weight added together.

Electric car application
The motor used in electric car application is fitted with transmission to get the power from battery and controlled by power electronic controller. Mechanical energy from the motor will be transmitted from motor via transmission to the car wheels. The motor can be fitted in front side or back side of the vehicle.
Drones applications
Drones need four motors and controlled by controller for its lift and balanced fly.
