Aim of Education # 1. All-Round Development:
Education should aim at all-round development of the people – material and spiritual.

The link between education and material and spiritual development of personality can be created through the development of various programmes like science education, work-experience, vocationalisation of education at the secondary stage.




Technical and management education, mass media and educational technology, sports and physical education, environmental education and value education.

Aim of Education # 2. Development of Human Resource or Man-power:
Education should aim at the development of man-power or human resource for fitting into different layers of economy for their fabulous and enriched contribution to the development of nation.

Aim of Education # 3. Development of Socialism, Secularism and Democracy:
Education aims at promotion of socialism, secularism and democracy by inculcating democratic, secular socialistic and ethical values in children.

Aim of Education # 4. International Co-operation and Peaceful Co-existence:
Since India has wedded to internationalism and peaceful co-existence, her educational system aims at inculcating the feeling of international co-operation and peaceful co-existence in the minds of students without shirking of our glorious tradition and cultural ethos and heritage.

Aim of Education # 5. Cultivating Moral and Ethical Values:




Erosion of values in society has become an emerging trend. India is passing through a stage of value crisis. NPE stressed the need of value education as: “if the nation is to be saved from social disaster; it is the high time that moral and ethical values be inculcated in our students from their childhood”. As such, educational programme must be geared to cultivate human values in the children.

Aim of Education # 6. Life Long Education:
Life-long and continuing education is a cherished goal of our educational process. It is a never ending process which presupposes that opportunities will be provided to the youth, housewives, agricultural and industrial workers and professionals to continue the education of their choice at their own pace.

Aim of Education # 7. National System of Education:
It aims at providing national system of education which implies that up to a given level, all students irrespective of caste, creed, location or sex have access to education of a comparable quality.



Aim of Education # 8. National Integration:
With a view to inculcating the feeling of nationalism and patriotism, education should include history of freedom struggle, constitutional duties, democratic life, secularism, socialism, equality among men and women, equal opportunity, small family norm, eradication of social prejudices, fostering of scientific temper, dispassionate zeal etc.

Aim of Education # 9. Education for Equality:
NPE stresses on equalizing educational opportunities and removal of disparities in any forms and magnitudes as the aim of education. All possible efforts have to be made for the removal of disparities and to equalize educational opportunities by attending to the specific needs of women, SC, ST, The minorities and the handicapped.



Aim of Education # 10. Vocationalisation:
With a view to attaining self- sufficiency, education should be vocationalised. Education aims at increasing employability of the individuals. As such, through a vocational education programme, the employability problem can be solved and the development of nation can be possible by making education vocationalised.



Aim of Education # 11. Meeting the Future Complexities and Needs:
The future is uncertain, yet it is replete with a barrage of challenges and complexities. Education, therefore, aims at enabling pupils to meet the future complexities and needs and contingencies with courage, and conviction.

Aim of Education # 12. Development of Scientific Temper:
Complete and dynamic growth of individual necessitates infusion of scientific temper and independence of mind. Education should aim at injecting in the minds of children scientific temper and Spirit of inquiry.

Aim of Education # 13. Appreciation of Indian Culture:
Education should aim at developing a sense of understanding of and appreciation of our cultural traditions and rich heritage of hoary past. To sum up, whatever the aims of education coinciding particular time and age, they must be related to the life, needs and aspirations of people. Needs and aspirations of people reflect the national needs and goals.
