Metal excess defect usually happens when there is an extra presence in the interstitial space of cation which is placed in crystalline structure.

Consequences of metal excess defect

  • When there is a metal excess defect it gets coloured.
  • This colouring happens as they contain free electrons in them.
  • If crystal are pesent with these metal excess defect can conduct electricity.
  • Electricity can be conducted easily as the free elctrons in them are a good source of conductors.
