The different streams of human migration into Assam sequentially from ancient times to the present are as follows:
- Austric group: It is the first group of people that came to Assam from Southeast Asia. They are mainly the Jaintias and Khasis.
- Mongolaid Group: They are the second group of people that came to Assam and spoke the Tiebeto Burmese Language. In the present day, their tribes include Bodo, Missing, Rabha, Deori etc.
- The Aryans: The Indo-Aryans migrated to Assam after the Mongolian group. They are the caucasoid racial stock.
- The Muslim Soldiers: During the 13th century, they invaded Assam under Khilji.
- The Ahoms: The most important tribals of Assam. They also belong to the Mongoloid stock and ruled for around 600 years.
- Migration from Bangladesh: They are the people who migrated from Bangladesh and do not have their own land.
