• It can affect living organisms and can cause various disease.
• It is basically of 4 types :

1. double standard dNA virus - eg : Herpes virus and pox virus
2. single standard dNA virus - eg : Parvovirus
3. double standard RNA virus -eg : Corona virus , dengue virus
4. single standard RNA virus - eg : polio virus

• Viruses may also be classified as :

1. Non enveloped Virus
2. Enveloped Virus

• Enveloped viruses - They consists of an outermost membrane made up lipid which is derived from host cells. For eg - Hepatitis B and C , Influenza Virus
• Non enveloped viruses - They donot contain the outermost lipid membrane. For eg : Rota virus , Hepatitis E virus.
