Northern Plains are divided into three sections:
- Punjab Plains
- Western parts of Northern Plains.
- Formed by Indus and its tributaries.
- This section is dominated by doabs.
2. Ganga Plains
- Extends between Ghaghar and Teesta rivers.
- It spreads over the states of Harayana,Delhi,UP,Jharkhand and West Bengal.
3. Brahmaputra Plains
- East to Ganga Plains lies the Brahmaputra.
- Covers most of the Assam and North-east.
- Drained by Brahmaputra river.
