Northern Plains are divided into three sections:

  1. Punjab Plains
  • Western parts of Northern Plains.
  • Formed by Indus and its tributaries.
  • This section is dominated by doabs.

2. Ganga Plains

  • Extends between Ghaghar and Teesta rivers.
  • It spreads over the states of Harayana,Delhi,UP,Jharkhand and West Bengal.

3. Brahmaputra Plains

  • East to Ganga Plains lies the Brahmaputra.
  • Covers most of the Assam and North-east.
  • Drained by Brahmaputra river.
