1789: Convocation of the Estates General (1st estate – Clergy; 2nd Estate – Nobility; 3rd estate – Merchants, Big Businessmen, Courts, Officials, Artisans, Peasants, Servants, Landless Labourers, and so on). The 3rd Estate formed the National Assembly, the Bastille was stormed, and the peasant revolted in the countryside.

1791: A constitution was framed to restrict the powers of the king and to assure basic rights to all people.

1792-93: France became a republic. 'Jacobin Republic' was overthrown and a 'Directory rules' was introduced in 'France'.

1795: A 'new Convention' appointed a 'five-man Directorate' to run the state from October, 26, '1795'.

1799: The 'Revolution' ends with the rise of 'Napoleon Bonaparte'.  

1804: Napoleon had crowned himself France’s emperor. He set out to conquer neighboring European nations, depriving dynasties and building kingdoms where he had placed his family members. Napoleon saw his role as the moderniser of Europe

1815: Napoleon was eventually defeated at Waterloo in the year 1815
