The major measure undertaken in favour of the consumers was adopting the Consumer Protection Act 1986 , which is commonly known as COPRA.

It is a three tier machinery: state, district and national levels, that helps in addressing the disputes of the consumers.

This act has helped the consumers to have their concerns addressed at the consumer court.

Answer:

"A major step taken in 1986 by the Indian government was the enactment of the COPRA act. The COPRA act was also referred to as the Consumer Protection Act of the year 1986.

The proposed act was implemented to help consumers from getting cheated by sellers in terms of buying goods. This act stopped the unfair means adopted by sellers to earn more profit by cheating the buyers.
