The reasons are:-
1) The soldiers received low salaries.
2) Inspite of the fact that they were equally skilled like their British counterparts, they were insulted and ill-fed by the Britishers.
3) They had bleak chances of promotion. Even the Indian soldiers, who occupied high official positions during the reign of kings who ruled India before the British, could not rise above the rank of a Subedar.
4) The General Service Enlistment Act had a deep impact on the Brahmin soldiers. According to their beliefs, the Brahmins were not allowed to travel overseas. But this act made the soldiers to be sent overseas for duty.
5) Also, the soldiers had to serve in places away from their homes without any extra payments.
