Changes to capital city - This is the most famous of all. Tuglaq transferred his capital from Delhi to Devagiri. But instead of transferring just the government, he ordered all the people of Delhi to move to Devagiri. He spent huge sums of money to fund the transportation. People thought they were being exiled, many escaped, many died on the roads. When the Mongols began raiding the northern part of the country, the Sultan decided to transfer his capital back to Delhi and moved everyone back again.

Bribing the Mongols - When Mongols raided his country, the Sultan bribed them instead of driving them away. Encouraged by this, they raided his country repeatedly and extracted more money from him.

Currency - Tughlaq wanted to accumulate money somehow, so he replaced gold and silver currency with copper and ordered that copper coins have the same value as gold and silver. In those days, the coin’s value was based on the material it was made of, so naturally a gold coin had a higher value. Local smiths easily imitated his coins using freely available copper and produced more coins and became rich. Tughlaq realized his mistake and reverted his decision. He brought the gold and silver coins back but this time people made more and more copper coins and exchanged them and emptied his treasury.
