The plateau has broad and shallow valleys and rounded hills. This plateau consists of two broad divisions, namely, the Central Highlands and the Deccan Plateau. The part of the Peninsular plateau lying to the north of the Narmada river covering a major area of the Malwa plateau is known as the Central Highlands.

• Covered by Vindhya(North),Satpura(South) and Aravali(North-West).
• Rivers such as Chambal,Sindh,Betwa and Ken flow from its southwest to southeast.
• It is wider in West and narrow in East.
• Chotanagpur Plateau marks the further eastward extension.

2. Deccan Plateau-

• Triangular land mass lying south to the river Narmada.
• Borders –

>Mahadev

• Tilted towards east –

>The Deccan Plateau is higher in the west and slopes gently towards the eastward.

• Western and Eastern Ghats lie here.
