it is power currency of cell generated in mitochondria

vedichatur0: Functions of ATP in cells. ATP plays a critical role in the transport of macromolecules such as proteins and lipids into and out of the cell. The hydrolysis of ATP provides the required energy for active transport mechanisms to carry such molecules across a concentration gradient.

ATP or Adenosine Triphosphate is the energy currency of the cell. When catabolic (break-down) reactions release energy in the cell, this energy is used to synthesise ATP. The energy is actually stored in the high-energy phosphate bonds in the ATP molecule. When required, these bonds are broken to release the stored energy. Hence ATP breaks down to produce a fixed amount of energy as and when required by the cell.
