the supreme courts consideres three types of cases .....cases which are appealed from lower  confederate courts........cases which are appealed from state supreme courts.....and cases that have not been previously heard by a lower court, such as between one state's government and another

Supreme court considers cases that involve disputes between two persons, a person and state government, two state government, state government and central government etc. They also consider cases of lower federal courts.
