Exports to the West, from India were ivory, perfumes, spices, cotton etc. These items were much sought after in the West and found buyers in large numbers. Traders mostly took it by sea route, but overland trade also figured during those times.
China exported silk, tea, porcelain, spices etc. which were considered exotic and therefore expensive. Since it was a long, overland route, only limited quantities could be taken by traders during the ancient times and hence these items were quite expensive.
