Mountbatten Plan, also known as the June 3 plan was prepared by Lord Mountbatten during the partition of India for speedy transfer of responsibility to the dominions. Its main features were as below:

1. It divided India into 2 dominions-one representing the Muslim majority districts and the other the rest of the provinces.

2. All the treaties with the Princely States would come to an end and they would be free to associate themselves with either of the Dominions or to remain independent.
