I think surfactants are substances used to lower the surface tension between liquids or gases .it can also lower the surface tension between a liquid and a solid

In most cases they act as emulsifiers .there are non ionic surfactants ad ionic surfactants

This solution reduce friction effects .it is worth noting that the ionic surfactants ha e different charges within the functional group .

When an ionic charge is attached to a functional group of the surface ,it causes charge density hence reducing surface tension
