The people in Indus Valley Civilization in general and Mohen-jo-Daro in particular were ahead of their times in respect of town-planning → The towns were divided into three sections:
(1) Citadel-forts of rulers.
(2) House of administrative officials on the upper part of the town which was sale and well-protected. The houses had two to five rooms.
(3) Residences for the common people on the lower part of town. The houses in this part were constructed with hand-made bricks. The towns were fortified.
→ The towns had well-planned roads, systematic drainage system, public baths and public buildings.
