ileum is a part of the small intestine where digestion and absorption of food takes place.
the adaptations int the ileum to facilitate absorption are:
● it is provided with numerous microscopic villi which are finger like projections that greatly increase the surface area of the small intestine for the better absorption of food.
● the ileum of the small intestine is highly coiled and very narrow so that food passes very slowly through that for the better absorption of nutrients.
