Answer: Number of stamps of Meria are 170 and that of Sara are 380.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of stamps of Meria be x        ... 1

No. of stamps Sara had = 40 + 2x

Total stamps = 550

=> No. of stamps Meria had = 550 - (40+2x)

:.      x = 550 - (40+2x)            (from ...1)

       x = 550 - 40 - 2x

       2x + x = 550 - 40

       3x = 510

       x = 510/3

       x = 170

No. of stamps of Sara = 40+2x = 40+ 2(170) = 40+340 = 380
