Merits:

• There is a huge demand of seafood from all over the world as it lays down several benefits from tastes to medications. Hence it helps in fulfilling demands for seafood.  
• Growing demands have made it a major activity in countries along the pacific or other coastal regions. It is playing a major economic impact on the GDP of the world.

Demerits:

• It is tremendously depleting the ocean or sea ecology exploiting many fish species either for meeting food demands or another reason.  
• This procedure involves the utilization of nets or other techniques which is reported of killing other marine species like tortoise, sharks etc. The use of traps is proving harmful to species.
