Mesosome is produced by the infoldings of plasma membrane. In fact it is the part of its structure.

Mesosomes are found lining within the cell wall.

These are needed for cell respiration, which releases energy from the food and DNA replication, sell division, and extending the area of cell membrane.

These were termed as "mesosomes" by J. D. Robertson in the year 1959.
