It is true metals are electropositive elements, metals in the process of reaction,they do so by donating their valance electrons to the reacting component

, this makes it having less electrons than the protons in its centre, electrons have effect of negativity to an element , it is therefore outnumbered by protons in it.Then metals becomes electropositive has brought by larger number of protons than electrons resulting stronger positive force pulling outer electrons towards the centre.
