Alkanes is a chain of carbon and hydrogen with no pi bond and only sigma bond i.e neither there is presence of electronegativity difference between atom of (hydrogen and carbon) and (carbon and Carbon) nor they have pi bond which can show delocalization of electron to undergo reaction. so, lower alkanes due to absence of reactivity factor do not undergo nitration.
