Microorganisms Involved in Biogas Production: Several hundred species of microorganisms are involved in the anaerobic digestion and biogas production. (i) Hydrolytic and Fermentative Bacteria: This group includes both obligate and facultative anaerobes, and may occur upto 108-109 cells/ml of sewage sludge digesters.

Methanogens grow and anaerobically on cellulosic material and produce large amount of Methane along with carbon dioxide and hydrogen .Since biogas is a mixture of Methane and carbon dioxide so, Methanogens helps in production of biogas .
