Method: Take diluted. HC L in four test tubes and label them as 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D'.
Dip a blue litmus paper in a test tube 'A' and red litmus paper in 'B'. Then add a drop of Phenolphthalein in C a methyl orange in D. Observe the change of the colour

Test tube A contains dilute HCl and test tube B contains dilute NaOH. On adding blue litmus solution to both the test tubes, the colour of test tube A will change from blue to red while the colour of test tube B will remain the same. This is because HCl is acid and acid turns blue litmus to red.
