Methods for Measuring Advertising Effectiveness
Methods used for the evaluation of advertising can be divided into two
categories - Pre test methods and Post test methods.
Pre test Methods
Pre testing is undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of an advertisement
before it is placed in different media. Pre-testing helps the management to know the
likely response of the advertisement on the consumers. It helps to reduce the risk
of advertisement failures.

Consumer Jury Method: Advertisement copy is shown to a panel of prospective
consumers and their impression is collected. Several copies may be rated by
the panel and ranked accordingly.
(2)
Portfolio Test: The advertisement to be tested is shown with a series of
other advertisements and the viewers are asked to give their liking on these
advertisements.
