Hey mate!

Answer:

Irrigation is the process of supplying water to the crops at specific time intervals. In India, only crops under an area of 50% are irrigated. Some of the irrigation methods or systems that are commonly used are:

Wells

Wells are constructed where enough groundwater is available It has two types, dugwells and tubewells. These are successful in areas only where water is sweet and not deep.

Canal System

Canals carry water from the rivers, dams, lakes etc. to the agricultural land. Main canal is divided into distributaries which further supply water to the fields.

Sprinkler Irrigation System

In the sprinkler system, there are two perpendicular pipes with rotating nozzles on the top which supply water to the crops. This system is used in some parts of India for sandy soil and uneven land.

Drip Irrigation

In this system, the water falls drop by drop in the position of roots. This is an economic method as water is not wasted at all.

Rainwater Harvesting

In this method, the rainwater is collected and further recycled to the ground by digging tunnels and later it is used for various purposes like irrigation.

River-lift System

In this system, the water is directly taken from the nearby situated rivers using the pumps and local devices for lifting water from the river.

Hope it helps you!
