MICR stands for Magnetic ink character recognition.

- Magnetic ink Character Recognition is an input device which is used to identify certain characters which are printed on the cheque books due to some specific reasons by the bank.

- So a particular ink is used which is very unique and consists of magnetic particles to print the cheque number and bank code number which is easily read with the help of magnetic ink recognition code.

- It's mostly used for the sake of security purposes in the bank so that there is no case of fake cheques.
