In essence, oxidizing a primary alcohol up to the aldehyde stage is actually difficult due to fact that an aldehyde is readily oxidized to a carboxilic acid. So far, special reagents have been developed to convert primary alcohols to aldehydes only i.e. Pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC).
common method for oxidizing secondary alcohols to ketones uses ... bond is cleaved, and the alkene carbons are converted to aldehydes:.
