Milk goes sour by lactobacillus bacteria if its pH falls below 7.

Explanation:

  • If pH of a substance or solution is less than 7 then it is known as an acidic solution and if the pH of a substance is more than 7 then it is known as basic solution. When pH of a solution is equal to 7 then it is known as a neutral solution.
  • Usually the pH of normal milk is 7. When lactobacillus bacteria is present in milk then there will occur fermentation of milk. And, due to the fermentation the milk will become sour in taste.
  • As a result, the pH of milk will become slightly less than 7. Hence, the milk will become sour in taste.
