Explanation:

The equivalent weight of an element is the mass which combines with or displaces 1.008 gram of hydrogen or 8.0 grams of oxygen or 35.5 grams of chlorine. These values correspond to the atomic weight divided by the usual valence; for oxygen as example that is 16.0g / 2.

Gram equivalent mass is mass of one mole of element, molecule, ion divided by their valency or number of electrons shared.

e.g., molar mass of AlCl3 is 133.34 g/mol. Whereas its equivalent mass would be 133.34/3= 44.4467 g/eq.

from the definition of gram equivalent and equivalent mass of an atom, molecule or ion.. gram equivalent is dimensionless number whereas equivalent mass has dimensions..

for AlCl3, equivalent mass is 44.44 g/eq, Therefore 44.44 g of AlCl3 would mean 1 gram equivalent of AlCl3.
