Milton was in deep sorrow when he began writing Paradise Lost in the year 1658.

He symbolises Satan as the cruel anarchy of English rulers and God as the Puritans who tried to remove all evils of Christianity at the time of Reformation.

His poetry spreads a message that Puritans were the divine messengers of God who wanted to bring back the Kingdom of Heaven.

After Renaissance several evil customs became a part of the church which was opposed by Puritans at the time of Reformation.
