Vitamin in greater amount can make body functional improper, but absence of it can also causes deficiency syndrome like
A) scurvy - deficiency of vitamin C
B) Rickets - deficiency of vitamin D
Etc...

vitamin and mineral though required in a very less quantity but still it performs hundreds of role in the body like they help in healing wound , improve immune system , help in converting food into energy and much more hence it plays very important role having a good health
