On the basis if their exhaustible resources are classified as renewable and non-renewable resources. The resources which are found in huge amounts and will take thousands of years for its consumption are called renewable resources.

For example, sunlight, wind, etc. But the resources which are found in very limited amount and takes very long periods of time to get renewed and can be used completely are called non-renewable resources, minerals, coal, petroleum etc. are the examples of non-renewable resources. So their consumption should be done judiciously.

On basis of origin resources are of two types: "Biotic and Abiotic resources". Biotic resources are living in nature like plants, animals, microbes. Abiotic resources are non living and it includes minerals, sunlight, wind ,coal etc.
