High intensity lamps are electrical lamps which work by producing light that is caused by striking up an electric balance between the filament and the electric arc.

Typically, such lamps use a noble gas; like argon, neon, krypton, and xenon or a mixture of these gases.

noble gases
-----------------------------
The gas used in the high-intensity lamp is noble gases such as nitrogen, argon, neon etc

IN order to make the filament to last longer and also in order to prevent its oxidation we use these gases as they are nonreactive gases and thus helps in the long life of the bulbs.
