Mitochondria is an organelle that is absent in prokaryotes

  • Mitochondria is an organelle that is found in eukaryotes and is responsible for the generation of energy for that cell (ATP generation). Due to this fact, it is often called the powerhouse of the cell.
  • Mitochondria is absent in prokaryotic cells (like bacteria), its  function of energy production is carried out using an electron transport chain that is found in the prokaryotic plasma membrane

Thus, mitochondria are present in all cells except prokaryotic cells.
