Aster is a structure mainly found in animal cells which are associated with centrosome and microtubules and thereby take part in the initial stages of mitosis.

Though plants lack the arrangement of centrosome and centrioles, they can still form the mitotic spindles from a region present in the cell just outside of the nucleus.
