Matilda was blessed with a beautiful physique and she always felt that she was born for a family of luxuries than a family of clerks. She lacked the lavish life she yearned for. Therefore she was discontented with her life.

While she was always jealous of Mme. Forestier because of her luxury life but still Mme. Forestier was a very loyal friend. when Matilda asked for a necklace she showed her so many jewels and did not think twice about it.
