3 Median = Mode + 2 Mean

3median \: = 42 + 2 \times 49 \\ 3median \: = 42 + 98 \\ 3median = 140 \\ median \: = 46.6

Question: Mode= 42, mean= 49 than median =?

Solution: In order to solve this particular problem you must know the empirical relationship that exist between mean median and mode.

The relationship is given as "The difference of mean and mode is three times the difference of mean and median."

i.e. Mean - Mode = 3(Mean - Median).

Now all you need to do is put the substituting values and simplify the equation.

or, 49 - 42 = 3(49 - median)

or, 7 = 147 - 3*median

or, 3*median = 147-7 = 140.

or, median = 140/3 = 46.67 [Ans]
