Extremists are usually contrasted with centrists or moderates. For example, in contemporary discussions in Western countries of Islam or of Islamic political movements, the distinction between extremist (implying "bad") and moderate (implying "good") Muslims is typically stressed.

Answer:

Moderates were leaders who believed in Liberalism and Moderate Politics. They were completely okay with britishers ruling India, All they wanted was more seats and participations in the INC from more Indians. They believed that if the Rulers became aware of the condition of the Indians, they would improve the same. To achieve this, they tried to unite the public, educate them and create a strong public opinion. This unity was then used to force Britishers to reform their policies and bring them in line with the opinion of the public. However, the extremists were people who used armed forces and military to gain independence from the britishers. The growth of the extremists was really large.
