given cost price= Rs.600/-
since he sold it at a profit of 25% he sold the book at a price 25% in costprice more than the cost price. I hope you understand the above line. If not comment it.
and 5% over selling price is for expenses.
         Firstly the selling price=25/100 x 600+600=750
Secondly expenses are over selling price i.e 750 x 5/100=37.5
So cut off the expenses from s.p, we get 750-37.5=712.5
So he must have sold the book for 712.5

If we logically thought of this question. It would be Rs.750 to sell the book. and after selling the book he gets to pay the expenses of Rs.37.5.

ellenmelloharry: Hey, wait you have said in the question that the expenses is over selling price. So we should calculate the 5% thing over selling price. But you taken our 5% from 25% which is like calculating the 5% over cost price.
ellenmelloharry: So, I did the problem according to that....
kalpana47: It is the loss % over profit % that's why we conclude it that is 25%-5% --20% and the answer given in that picture is also the same..
ellenmelloharry: You are technically talking about maths profit and loss %. But I am taking about the sentence that you have mentioned in the question that "expenses of the selling price" which implies we should calculate the expenses over selling price.
kalpana47: ohh yes I see the question again and calculate u did right but at last both s.p. is add means 750 +37.5 - 787.50
vikalshivampblyf5: thanku @kalpana47
kalpana47: it's my pleasure
