Now according to the given statement it says : -

Marks deducted for incorrect answers = 2 (30-x)

= 60 - 2x

Now in the equation form,

3x - ( 60 - 2x ) = 40

3x - 60 + 2x = 40

5x - 60 = 40

5x = 40 + 60

x = 100/5

So, x = 20

Because, The number of correct answers is = 20  and the number of incorrect answers is = 10
