Solution

Let the present age of Mohan be x years and his father's age be 4x years.

Their ages after 5 years,

• Mohan's age = x + 5 years.
• Mohan's father's age = 4x + 5 years.

According to the question,

⟶ 4x + 5 = 3(x + 5)

⟶ 4x + 5 = 3x + 15

⟶ 4x - 3x = 15 - 5

⟶ x = 10

The value of x = 10.

∴Mohan's present age = x = 10 years.

Mohan's father's age = 4x = 4 × 10 = 40 years.
