H2 differs from 2H

Justification-

  • Atoms are the smallest unit of matter. Atoms cannot exist independently they exists in the form of ions and molecules which further combine to form matter.
  • Molecules are group of molecules that are held together by various attractive forces such as chemical bonds.
  • The number of Atoms combined to form molecules is represented in the subscript on the Chemical symbol of the element.
  • For example, H₂ is the Hydrogen gas molecule. The two Hydrogen atoms are combined by covalent bond.
  • Whereas To depict the number of atoms of an element present the number is written to the left side of the chemical symbol of the element.
