The molecular basic of muscle contraction. Muscles contract by the interdigation of protein filaments with in them. The head part of each myosin molecule is though to interact with the actin filament in a cyclic manner driven by ATP hydrolysis with each stroke of these cycle causing about 10nm movement.

Molecular and chemical basis of muscle contraction:

  • The muscle contraction happens through the interdigitation of protein filaments.
  • There are two components which makes up the filament which includes the actin and myosin.
  • The head part of this component myosin, interacts with the actin and this interaction between the two components happens in a cyclic methodic fashion.
  • The head of the myosin molecules is crystallized in an order.
  • ATP hydrolysis is the phenomenon which happens with each stroke of the cyclic manner causing the movement about 10 Nano meter.
